Lovelies, where did you get your musical taste from? I most definitley got my taste in music from both my mom and dad (and step-dad...I'd never really listened to The Beach Boys and much Beatles before him!). My mother introduced me to Carly Simon, Carole King, Taj Mahal, Dr. John, and Bonnie Raitt. My father used to sing us Paul Simon, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, and Bob Dylan.

Tonight, after a long day, I decided to put my iPod in my ears, cook up a pot of chicken soup, and while that was cooking, get some cleaning done. While I scrolled through my artists on my iPod, I came across John Prine. My dad introduced me to him when I was in my teens, and we even saw one of his concerts together. Both of our all-time favorite Prine songs is "Souvenirs." So, I decided on John Prine, and when I heard those first few bars of Souvenirs, my heart just melted. It's a gorgeous song. I texted my dad the first lyric, "All the snow has turned to water, Christmas days have come and gone. Broken toys and faded colors are all that's left to linger on." He texted me back, "Souvenirs!" It's so important to have musical connections with people in life!

Anyway, here's the lyrics to Souvenirs, take a gander, as they're quite moving. So, do share...where did you get your musical taste from? Mom? Dad? Sister? Brother? Friends?

Souvenirs by John Prine

All the snow has turned to water,
Christmas days have come and gone.

Broken toys and faded colours are all that's left to linger on.

I hate graveyards and old oawn shops,
For they always bring me tears.
I can't forgive the way they robbed me of my childhood souvenirs.

Memories, they can't be boughten.
They can't be won at carnivals for free.
Well it took me years to get those souvenirs,
And i don't know how they slipped away from me.

Broken hearts and dirty windows
Make life difficult to see.
That's why last night and this morning
Always look the same to me.
And I hate reading old love letters
For they always bring me tears.
I can't forget the way they robbed me,
Of my sweetheart's souvenirs.

Memories they can't be boughten,
They can't be won at carnivals for free.
Well it took me years to get those souvenirs
And i don't know how they slipped away from me.

*Edit: Just got text from dad: need to give my mom credit for introducing HIM to John Prine!
