Something funny happened when Autumn came around this year: I became weirdly obsessed with crocheting. For those of you who don't know what crocheting is, our little friend Wikipedia explains it very clearly, for it "is a process of creating fabric from yarn or thread using a crochet hook. The word is derived from the Middle French word croc or croche, meaning hook. Crocheting, similar to knitting, consists of pulling loops of yarn 
through other loops. Crochet differs from knitting in that only one loop is active at one time and that a crochet hook is used instead of knitting needles." I guess it must be a pretty unknown craft because I'm teaching a class on how to crochet a scarf this week and the headline said, "Learn how to 'crochet'!" However, the art of crocheting isn't unknown on our favorite craft website, Etsy. On Etsy you can search for thousands upon thousands of crocheted items, from jewelry to scarves to housewares.
While searching today for some crochet-spiration, I came across these truly lovely Victorian Crochet Lace Cuffs from Modern Needlepoint. They are gorgeous ivory cuffs, made with a button, which hark back to a time of bustled crinoline skirts, elaborate hats, puffy sleeves, and cameo necklaces. These can be made in a variety of colors, and I think they would look beautiful with a wedding dress (imagine the bride getting ivory, and the bridesmaids getting colors to match their dresses!). These are so delicate and feminine, yet so well made that they look tough and strong. They are to be worn low on the hand so that they can stick out from under long sleeves. I love the lace pattern; and the utter simplicity and beauty of these make them wearable for all four seasons, whether with a light summer coat, your heavy winter woolen shirts, spring dresses, or plaid for the Fall. What a great way to utilize the art of crocheting!
