Happy Monday, Lovelies! I love signs. I love all signs, whether the kind from the unknown which we must decipher the real meaning of, or the simple wooden sign which dictates which room is which in a house, or the beautiful signs which state lovely sayings and can be hung on the wall to spruce up a room. Signs always get my head spinning and thinking; technically, a sign is the simplest form of art: a piece of wood with some lettering on it, so why am I so moved by signs? I happen to collect signs. Someday in my (future) house, I want a whole wall of signs detailing all the adventures and places I've been in my life. Signs point the direction of where you have been, where you are, and where you will be going, whether you know it at the time or not.
I love signs that are ironic; they look beautiful and elegant, but their message makes the reader laugh out loud (while in Williamsburg, VA a sign was bought that said, "Dance like no one is watching; we could all use a good laugh." It made me laugh so hard that I had to buy it!). Curved Noodles, an original sign shop, sells a sign which made me smile wide and let out a good giggle; the sign says, "Remember, as far as anyone knows, we're a nice normal family." Wouldn't this be a perfect sign to put in the front hall, kitchen, or foyer of a house? Any guest that enters the house would see it and inevitably smile and laugh. What a great way to greet your house guests!
However, sometimes you crave a little more elegance for your house and something so ironic wouldn't necessarily jive with the rest of the house. In this case, I love the signs from Family Attic. I fell in love with their "Rose Cottage" sign (my grandmother's house is named "Rose Cottage"! What a perfect Mother's Day gift!). I adore the antiqued look of it, yet, it's handmade and one-of-a-kind. I feel like you would have seen this sign in an old cottage, high on a hill, wildflowers abounding, scents of fresh bread and chicken broth steaming from the windows...now you can make your little dorm room, apartment, or house feel like a sweet cottage with this truly lovely sign. If your house doesn't have a name, you can just put up the "Country Cottage" sign and let everyone know that they are entering a much-loved little cottage.
What would your ideal sign say?
