I might be the best sister ever. I came home from work the other day and asked Baby Brother Lovely if he wanted to go run some errands with me. He said sure and was pleasantly rewarded. I'd been wanting to try Wild Flours Bake Shop for a while, but it is sort of hidden away from the rest of Huntington- out of sight out of mind. But whenever I walk down New Street (which is a lot considering how Olivia and Eric feel about 34 New Street, spoiler: they love it.) I say to myself or to Olivia or to Eric or to Andrey - "Gosh, that place fits right in our aesthetic. It's really cute, I wonder how it is. I want to try it."

But unfortunately, we were either on our way to dinner or it was closed. But not yesterday! Monday through Thursday, Wild Flours is open from 8 AM - 6 PM, Fridays and Saturdays they're open until 9 PM and Sundays from 9 AM - 1 PM. So Collin and I stopped by, we were greeted by two lovely girls who were very helpful in choosing an assortment of goodies to try.

We sampled the chocolate chip espresso scone (my favorite, insane), chocolate chip cookie (it was HUGE, more of a chocolate CHUNK cookie), brownie (also...very big! fudgy without being overly rich), a truffle and a piece of crumb cake (moist and generous in portion size, but for me a little too much "crumb" on top- it detracted from the delicious cake!). We did not try any of their food- which includes rolls, pizza, and quiches. Collin sipped a black coffee which he really liked and I had an [unsweetened] iced tea which I didn't need to put any sweetner in.

Here's what you need to know about the bake shop- it is 100% gluten free and 100% dairy free. They use green products, organic unrefined cane sugar, organic agave, maple sugar, and erythritol. In place of traditional "white flour" they employ brown rice, garbanzo bean, sorghum flours, teff flour, and a bunch more. "At a minimum, we use organic, fair trade, and / or socially responsible coffee, unrefined sugar, and chocolate. We also support Long Island by buying as many locally produced items as possible. Our coffee, tea, and baked goods are made with filtered water and we rarely use a microwave." (yanked from their website)

Neither Collin or I are gluten or diary free- but we still really enjoyed the baked goods. We didn't even realize the foods were dairy free until we overheard it while happily eating. It's great, in this day, to have a reliable bakery where you can try to be mindful of allergies and dietary choices as much as possible. No one should be denied chocolate chip espresso scones, is what I'm trying to say.
Left overs were abundant!
Do you see the size of that crumb cake? It's huge- that's how much we took home!

Check Wild Flours Bake Shop out here, or visit them at 11 New Street, Huntington.
