This weekend my beautiful friend Kim came to visit. While here we attended this wild music jam; it was one of the most unbelievable experiences in my life. It was held in a barn, which was converted to a house, and was piled from floor to ceiling with odds and ends from antique shops, tag sales, garbage sales, and God knows where. Kim fell in love with the Green Man pottery on 
some of the walls and of course, since I didn't know what Green Man pottery was, I had to look it up. Apparently, a "Green Man" is a "sculpture, drawing, or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves. Branches or vines may sprout from the nose, mouth, nostrils or other parts of the face and these shoots may bear flowers or fruit." They are a popular adornment for gardens and houses, for they have a spiritual sense to them, and are almost thought of as a spirit that will watch over your vegetation and home. What a lovely idea! I love the idea of a piece of gorgeous art watching over your garden; and of course, the best place to find your Green Man statue is our favorite store, Etsy.
I totally fell in love with this Greenman Plaque from My Garden Goddess (love that name!). This piece of an original design by the artist-sculptor Alice was, "molded the piece, cast concrete into the mold and hand stained the finished stone to create a beautiful patina effect. The color helps enhance the details and also protects the concrete from the outdoor elements." I absolutely love that this is a unique piece and can't be found in a chain store. This Green Man statue would look great in your garden, keeping an eye on your wild flowers, especially as the seasons change to Winter and the flowers need some extra encouragement to come up in the Spring! While this isn't an antique Green Man sculpture, I think it's just as amazing because it was hand-crafted and designed by a unique artist. What a great Mother's Day gift, Holiday present, or due to the low price, a lovely"anytime present" for the gardener in your life!
